Everyone always tries to find the best car for a teenager. Could be danger leading, could be a death trap, or one that has a factory beer cooler (cough Dodge Caliber). What is the worst?

Im just a little over budget but with enough begging (or negotiating) your kid could drive home in this lovely 1991 Camaro Z28!
Expensive to insure. Overpowered. Lack of safety. Its PERFECT!

The Chevy cobalt.

The social judgement would be too much to bear for a teen!
I know this is true because I am a teen.

Let’s see.
Gas hog, check
Ugly and uncool, check
Top heavy, check
Multiple seats to load full of distracting occupants, check
Fold down rear seat that turns into a bed, check
Folds in half in an accident and only has one airbag, check
Yeah, I think this wins.

Any convertible, because a sub 5 K convertible is like a drivable shower.

Totally disagree with this one. These are cheap to buy, insure, and run. Can be had in a coupe which in a teens eyes makes it instantly cooler and they don’t look half bad when they aren’t rental car white. The back seat is pretty useless so you cant stuff it full of people to distract you. They’re good on gas and have stuff like ABS, Traction control, and airbags. This is probably up there as one of the better teenager cars of its had the ignition recall done.

Ok. If the insurance on a Supercharged or Turbocharged Cobalt SS costs the same as the the regular spec Cobalt, it is dangerous. I could imagine the stupid shit one would do with a torque steering motherfucker of a car.

And RWD. Much more unwanted fun with spinning rear tires during winter season.

A full sized pick up! I say this as a full sized pick up owner! Terrible weight distribution makes them obscenely easy to spin out in the rain. High center of Gravity makes them easy to flip. Having a big V8, with great power comes great responsibility! Finally they’re not very safe is a crash! All that said I love mine, because giant RWD couch that turna 1.5k while interstate crusing. Now if only it didn’t drink like an alcoholic.

The worst car you could give a teen is something nice or unique that they’re not going to be able to appreciate. A teen with an Audi or Jag or similar, even an old one, is like feeding caviar to your infant. It’s just wasted upon them.
One of the girls I went to high school with did not care about cars in the least bit yet she drove a Lexus SC400 that she’d inherited from an older sibling or something. I just wanted to start shaking her by the shoulders and scream into her face “B*TCH DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT YOU’RE IN POSESSION OF?!?!”

Someone at my school drives a first generation Boxster and a first generation Cayenne. Both in silver iirc. I'll have to check when school starts again!

Cavalier/Sunnier; Crude/Verano; Cobalt/G5; Aveo/Sonic; Spark; etc.
Anything with less than 4 airbags.
Alternately, anything with more than, say, 230hp. Under 180 even better.

And to add onto your thought, something 3000lb and less than 4 airbags as well as high center of gravity.

I knew a girl in high school who, on her 16th birthday, received a brand new Ford Mustang 5.0. This was two days before she decided to show everyone how good she had gotten at doing burnouts. Yea. I went to school in a heavily wooded area, I’m sure you see where this is going. Well, the insurance company totaled it like she totaled the tree (hit it so hard it is actually bent at an angle now) and her parents decided she was responsible enough for a second Mustang. At least this time she got a lightly used base model convertible. God I hate those people. When my kids are old enough, I'm thinking mid-80's pick-up. Solid. Easy to work on. And shitty gas mileage so they won't be able to take anyone else on rides anywhere (because the majority of the stupid things I did in cars was to "impress" those who were riding with me).

Builds character. And gas is a serious killing factor. I have learned to control the throttle not pedal to the metal all the time with the matrix (as it gets horrible fuel economy above 3.5 k RPM)..80s pickup truck is great.
